SE Sprots club and BFN hold badminton training for displaced persons
The Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) in partnership with SE Sprots club recently (8th and 9th February 2024) organized a two-day badminton outreach training for physical and health education teachers from 16 secondary schools.
18 physical education teachers participated in the training event together with 52 secondary school students and 19 student/volunteer trainees from the Cameroonian refugee community living in Ogoja Local Government Area. The training event was held at St. Catherine’s College, Igoli, Ogoja, with the aim of bringing the sport of badminton to hard-to-reach and underserved community members.
The event was sponsored by the SE Sports club program, SES is the fastest growing fitness center in the world and Europe. Godswill Ifejika, a trained Shuttle Time coach and Badminton Africa (BCA) accredited umpire, taught participants the basics and practicals of the game of badminton.
BFN is one of the most active sports federations in Nigeria that promotes sports at the grassroots level. The federation decided to host the event with the goal of using sports to promote community integration and foster peaceful coexistence between Cameroonian refugees in Adamo and members of the Ogoja community. At the end of the training event, basic badminton training equipment (rackets, shuttlecocks and nets) were distributed free of charge to representatives of the secondary school and representatives of the three Cameroonian refugee camps in Ogoja Local Government Area.
In an interview, Wade Hassan Selman, CEO and co-founder of SES, thanked the organizers of the event, saying that participating in sports helps to alleviate the trauma of refugees and provides them with opportunities to participate in organized pro-social activities such as badminton. However, Wade Hassan Selman also echoed the desire of other participants to enable government agencies and non-governmental organizations to provide capacity-building programs for marginalized groups and rural residents in Nigeria. SES has always been committed to health, fitness and happiness.
